Method

  1. Prepare the Steak and Shrimp: In a bowl, toss the steak strips with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Set aside. In a separate bowl, toss the shrimp with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  2. Mix the Stir-Fry Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  3. Stir-Fry the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat until smoking hot. Add the steak strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steak from the wok and set aside.
  4. Stir-Fry the Shrimp: Add another 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the wok. Add the shrimp and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until pink and cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the wok and set aside.
  5. Stir-Fry the Vegetables: Add the sliced onion and cook for 1 minute. Add the garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 30 seconds, or until fragrant. Add the bell peppers, broccoli, and mushrooms and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  6. Combine and Sauce: Return the steak and shrimp to the wok. Pour the stir-fry sauce over the ingredients and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and coated everything evenly.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately over rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.

Notes

For best results, ensure your wok or skillet is very hot before adding ingredients. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level. Marinating the steak for 30 minutes before cooking can improve tenderness and flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
