  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups cooked rice white, brown, or jasmine
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage or slaw mix
  • 1/2 cup pickled red onions
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Sriracha mayo optional

  • Measuring spoons
  • large skillet
  • small saucepan
  • spatula
  • Bowls

Method

  1. Prepare the Chicken: In a bowl, toss the chicken pieces with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Ensure the chicken is evenly coated.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until cooked through and lightly browned. Don't overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  3. Make the Hot Honey: While the chicken is cooking, prepare the hot honey sauce. In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, and butter. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the butter is melted and the sauce is smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Combine Chicken and Hot Honey: Pour the hot honey sauce over the cooked chicken in the skillet. Toss to coat evenly. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and glaze the chicken.
  5. Assemble the Bowls: Divide the cooked rice among bowls. Top with the hot honey chicken.
  6. Add Toppings: Garnish with your desired toppings, such as shredded cabbage, pickled red onions, diced avocado, cilantro, and sesame seeds. Drizzle with sriracha mayo, if desired.
  7. Serve Immediately: Enjoy your delicious hot honey chicken bowl while it's warm and the chicken is perfectly glazed.

Notes

Adjust the cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level. For a crispier chicken, ensure the pan is hot before adding the chicken and avoid overcrowding. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The hot honey chicken is best served immediately to maintain its glaze and crispness.
