Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 head of butter lettuce, leaves separated
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet or wok
  • wooden spoon
  • cutting board
  • knife

Method

  1. In a large skillet or wok, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Spoon the seasoned beef mixture into the lettuce leaves, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best texture, be sure to break up the beef into small, bite-sized pieces as it cooks. Adjust the soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar to your desired balance of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors. The red pepper flakes can be omitted if you prefer a milder dish.
